omar del real biography

ok. So by some miracle you are seeing my website.
Given how the ridiculous amounts of information the internet contain, I appreciate your interest. What can I say. I love music. I'm not going to talk about myself in the 3rd person because that's not me.

I was born in Monterrey Mexico and I started playing guitar at the age of 12.
It quickly transformed into an obsession. But I was lucky to have met my mentor
Rafael Hernandez Hidalgo at the age of 16.

He taught me so many things. From how to invert a chord on the guitar and improvising, to Counterpoint and Orchestration etc. But more importantly, he made me discover how much I love to compose music. From some simple etudes, to fugues and my first symphony. I started giving guitar lessons when I was 18 years old. Something that I've never stop doing. I love to teach guitar and music theory.

I kept learning from anyone up until I started going to community college at Pierce College. That's when I met Dr. John Schneider who mesmerized me with the microtonal sounds of Harry Partch. I graduated from Cal State Northridge with a masters in Music composition. I also focus on recording technology and I can record recitals with my mobile equipment. I received the Professor Rowan Taylor Memorial music student Scholarship at pierce and the Richard Wiegand '66 Scholarship in Music at Cal State Northridge. My music has been performed in Mexico, Los Angeles, and France.
Thank you so much for being here.
